Tibet
As part of our trip to China we flew to Lhasa Tibet. We thought we were prepared for the 13,000 foot altitude but it was a shock and learning experience. Extra permits are required by the PRC to visit “their” occupied country. PRC soldiers were everywhere guarding bridges and many public buildings. Our guide told us he would be in trouble if we photographed. Our driver was Han Chinese and watched our guide and us. A trip to the countryside and Namtso Lake Nature Reserve was cancelled because of “unrest”. Unforgettable experiences and photos but sad to see the systematic and sustained effort by the PRC to eradicate Tibet culture and religion. Those effort continue today. We left with respect and empathy for the Tibetans.
